Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5, 6
I am trying to remember where in my home this motto was located, I think somewhere in the living area, as I was growing up. No matter, it is so right and full of grace that I do well this morning to ponder what it means for me, today.
I must acknowledge that I trust in many things – monthly income, good health, the love of family and friends and so forth.
The Psalmist insists on simplicity, and truth. “Trust in the Lord,” is the heart of it all. I think we are born to be achievers! And I am number one. In a way, it is against my nature to lean on Jesus, but on my own understanding. But that is the outcome of salvation – that I know.
So, this morning, as I enter a new day I want to learn how to lean of Jesus.

Don, I remember visiting MKC Ethiopia with you for a leaders’ retreat during their difficult time, probably 30 years ago. You taught them a song, “Learning to lean, learning to lean, I’m learning to lean on Jesus. Finding more power than I ever dreamed, I’m learning to lean on Jesus.”
Whenever I hear that song, I remember that occasion. Your meditation today was another reminder. Thanks.
