Jane was working on her soy beans this morning and spotted this assassin bug.  It is about two inches long with a red proboscis that it sticks into its prey to emulsify it and then suck it in like through a straw.

Hi, Nancy. Good to hear from you. Makes my day. I have observed these bugs eating beetles. They do so by inserting their proboscis into the beetle and inserting something that dissolves the insides of the critter. When dissolved, the bug simply sucks in the stuff! Ugh. But it works.
