The Daily Light this morning reminded me again of God’s love.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
I Corinthians 10:13
At my age I like to be reminded of how glorious it is to be called a believer in Jesus. I am many things – a husband, father, grandfather, friend, colleague – but no relationship, wonderful as it is, can compare with my love for Jesus and his love for me. In fact, Jesus casts a light on all relationships, making them even more meaningful.
For instance, this morning as Anna Ruth and prayed together, our hearts swelled with gratitude for the great love we know in the Lord. So, even human love is hugely enriched by divine love that transports us into a divine relationship that is glorious indeed.
Having reflected on that, I am reminded of our journey that is certainly punctuated by temptations of one kind or another. By no means am I free of temptation. My selfish me-first love is there, in the background, ready to blare its demands. Does that mean the Lord does not love me? Of course, not. Jesus, in me, enables me to recognize and turn from temptation. He requires of me only a willing spirit.
Further, I am reminded of the fact that Jesus who is in me, knows more about temptation than I do, by far, so his aid is precious beyond measure as He turns my heart away from temptation, toward Him
This is my reminder of the love of Jesus as we move into November. Jesus is the way out, when I am tempted.
