Come, Lord Jesus

Revelation 22:20

“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’  Amen.  Come, Lord Jesus.  The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people.   Amen.”

The final episode of the marvelous revelation brings a New Day when the New Jerusalem will come down, in some remarkable way, to us and we will be taken up. How it happens is not the point.   The point is, the old has passed away, the new has come.

John can hope again, now with an updated vision that puts everything else into perspective, his own life and the lives for which he is responsible as the shepherd of the flock. The Lord Jesus reigns and will reign forever.

The present hardships and perplexing events will pass.  Satan will be cast out into an unpleasant place prepared for him and his angels.  The saints and the hosts in heaven will sing their new exciting song, “The Lamb of God is worthy.  He reigns forever and ever. Amen.”

The Revelation closes with a tender appeal to Jesus Christ, our Lord, now in glory.  “Come, Lord Jesus.” John is saying, in a sense, I believe, “We understand and love you with all our hearts.  We are ready for your coming to us to do what you have promised – when you are ready for it will surely happen. Thank you, Spirit of the living God, for what we have seen and heard.  All glory be to you forever.  We believe with all our hearts.

And we add our little heart-felt bit, “Come, Lord Jesus,” when you see fit to fold us followers of the Lamb into your great, eternal flock of grace, do come, we are ready.

The final words of the Bible are divinely beautiful, “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people.  Amen.” v 20
