Revelation 12:10, 12.
“The accuser…has been hurled down…Therefore rejoice, you heavens…But woe to the earth and sea, because the devil has gone down to you. He is fulled with fury, because he knows his time is short.”
I find this to be a most remarkable description of the power of Jesus’ Blood, that is, his total atoning work, to defeat Satan. Not only defeat him, but to hurl him and his rebellious spirits out of heaven entirely. Satan can no longer accuse the followers of Jesus before God. Because of Jesus’ sacrificial death and glorious resurrection Satan is not only barred from access to God but Satan is dramatically hurled down to the earth with no access whatsoever to heaven at all, never again. That is true today.
Now what? The God-hating Satan is still the persistent accuser of the followers of the Lamb, the believers, including those in the seven churches of Asia. The revelation from heaven is that they have no accuser in heaven but they certainly do here on the earth.
I am not sure how this all works but I am sure of one thing, as reveled in the Gospel, that as the power of the atone work of Jesus cast Satan out of heaven forever, so that same atoning blood is able to confront and overpower Satan here on earth, right now. In fact, it is the only power that can hurl down Satan from our lives today. No other power can do that, whether it be the power of civilization, the power of the nations, the power of money, the power of the intellect, the power of all human doubt or the power of philosophies, no, Satan fears none of them, he fears only the power released by the atoning work of that Lamb who is there, in the midst of the throne, worshiped by all in heaven.
Our fight against Satan can be won, not by our determination to fight him but by the power of our Risen Lord! That power or might is our only but sure defense against this enemy, Satan, and his hordes. Nothing has changed since about AD 92 when John had this revelation. It is the same today. Every believer knows that!
