The Astounding “Now”

Revelation 12:10.

“Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of God, and the authority of his Christ.”

NOW. An astounding event has just happened that ushers in a whole new reality that affects heaven and earth. The voice in heaven emphasizes the “Now.” We might say, in simile, it was like that then, it is like this now, marking the appearance of something entirely different.

How it was. Satan could and did present himself at any time before God and accuse people who loved God.  In fact Satan accused them “before our God day and night.”  v 10  We are not told what he accused them of.  Maybe Satan disclosed their flaws which all have. Satan’s constant accusations dominated the heavenly scene.  Imagine him standing before God accusing every person of something!!  Satan’s constant accusations dominated the heavenly scene. It was incongruous, in a way. Every sincere worshiper was accused of something.  Satan had his hey-day, so to speak.  Worshipers need an advocate, not an eternal accuser!

What John saw next changed everything, “The accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before God day and night, has been hurled down.”  Really?  Yes. “Hurled down.” He could not from that moment on accuse God’s people for he was cast out of heaven entirely, him and all his angels.

What caused that almost unbelievable turn of events – Satan cast out of heaven?  As I read the text I see that those who were being accused actually overcame their accuser, Satan. The tables were turned.  They accused Satan!  How could they do that?  We read the powerful words, “They overcome by the power of the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”  v 11

As I see it, Satan’s single vocation was to turn all creatures against the Creator God because Satan, the rebel, sees himself as superior to God. That vocation was hugely sussesssful until the great “Now.” That was until the Blood of the Lamb appeared in heaven.  It was stronger than Satan and all his mighty hordes.  That Blood of God’s precious Lamb, Jesus Christ, overcame all Satanic power in the heavenlies.

Again, “The accuser of our brothers… has been hurled down.” v 10  The shed blood of the Lamb overcomes all Satan’s might.  Can we believe that?  Heaven surely does!
