Revelation 1:14
“His head and hair were like wool, as white as snow.”
In most cultures white hair is a sign of wisdom, as I assume it is here in John’s vision of Jesus Christ. We might say, he is “all wise.” We noticed that he is also all powerful or almighty, as indicated by his golden sash.
If I am seeing this right, Jesus’ wisdom (his prominent white hair) is above his might. In other words, John might have asked Jesus why he does not control the Emperor’s power, especially that which persecutes the believers in Jesus. Is Jesus less powerful than Caesar? If so, why does he not overpower the Emperor and set free all of the followers of Jesus? John may have had such thoughts.
This vision of Jesus’ white head made up of pure white hair, not a black one among them, must have spoken to John. Does this indicate that Jesus’ might or power is used as directed by his wisdom? I think so. We leave it at that.
We should not forget that we can see only a small segment of the huge picture. If we could see everything as God does, we could understand his reasoning. In the meanwhile we look to Him knowing that he does all things well.
This aspect of the vision of Jesus Christ settled John, no doubt. Things are not out of control, even if it looks like it. Jesus acts out of eternal wisdom. He is truly “all-wise” now and will be forever.
