Binding and Loosing on Earth

Matthew 18:18

“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Think about this!  Can this possibly be true?  Jesus says that we mortals have the power to decide things (bind them) here on earth which heaven will then consider decided or “binding.”  Is it possible that we followers of Jesus can do this?

It is awesome to think that when we believers bind or lose people, heaven says, “Good.” Awesome, yes, and gloriously true.

But, it is not that simple. To begin with we must be at one with our brothers and sisters – no darkness between us, sins confessed and forgiven.  And what we then decide relative to others must reflect the will of Jesus in our lives and reflect the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. No personal ambition or group power may be there, not a bit.  The questions are, what does Jesus want, is love and compassion (God’s love) the motive? The list of such questions can be long.  All personal desires and party spirit must be repented of and removed.

Jesus asks us to believe that when two or three (or two or three thousand) are in agreement on earth about kingdom matters – heaven considers that as binding.  So we had better make sure that our decisions together reflect the virtues of heaven where Jesus reigns!
