Jesus’ Stark Simplicity

Matthew 12:29

Hear a  parable.  A strong man has a house full of precious things. If a thief wants those precious things he has to deal with that strong man!  The only way the thief can succeed is to first deal with the strong man.

As long as the strong man is free, unbound, and you want his things, in order to get his things you have to overcome him, subdue him, overpower him.

As many parables are, this one needs some explaining. I find help from Jesus’ statement when his 70 evangelists returned from a ministry in Luke 10:18, 19. They were astounded when they discovered that the might of lowly Jesus can cast out demons. In calmness Jesus said, “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Behold, I have given you authority.”

Was Jesus binding the “strong man?” I certainly think so but after Jesus did submit to the the sacrifice for sin, I KNOW so. Because of his atoning work anyone who believes in him has surprising power over the enemy.
