Matthew 12:15 “Jesus withdrew from that place.”
While the healed people applauded Jesus, the experts on the Law sought to kill him.
Matthew reminds his readers that Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah will not try to defend himself.
“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.” Matthew 12:18 – 21
As we read in the Psalms, “He will not quarrel or cry out, no one will hear his voice in the streets.” Ps 142 I find it interesting that Jesus did not stand up and declare his Messiah-ship. He missed a good opportunity to do so here. Is it because only the hungry, the needy, the hopeless will recognize him for who he is because they are desperate? I believe so.
The Isaiah text, quoted above, reads, “In his name the nations will put their trust.” By “the nations” he is referring to God-hungry people, Jews and Gentiles alike. I am made aware of the fact that those who are full are not hungry!
