Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Jesus) Can I imagine Jesus saying, “Come to me all you successful and fulfilled people, you fortunate satisfied human beings. I am impressed with your goodness. Keep on being good. All will be fine.”
I must remember, the Gospel is food for the starving, water for the parched lips, life for death, a green oasis in a torrid dessert. The Gospel of Jesus, God’s Lamb, has little appeal for those who have no need for God, who are getting on very nicely, thank you. No, the Gospel is for the dying, the sinners, for those who have no hope. When such find salvation they love the words of Jesus “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Who would not exchange the burden of sin with the burden of carrying the Co-creator of the entire universe, and the One who died in our place so that we can live? That burden is light for it is life itself.
