Matthew 10:19
“At that time you will be given what to say.”
I stand in awe at this point. Is this true? In times of intense trial, especially, the Lord will, in a mysterious sense, speak through us. This needs some pondering! “At that time (after arrest) you will be given what to say for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” v 19 Jesus himself spoke these dramatic words as he sent out his disciples. The sentence is simple and easy to understand but it reveals an entire universe of the ways of God and his Holy Spirit.
I ask, are these words only for those who are imprisoned for their faith or are they for me? I believe the words have the stamp of eternity on them. That does not mean that I should not pray about or think about to say but even then it is the Spirit of God who shapes my words and my thoughts. I need to keep that firmly in mind – because I am essentially a word maker and a word user! Aren’t we all? So let us rely on the blessed Holy Spirit to speak through our words.
